Jumping Jehosaphat!

My machine is playing sillies - but I can just about manage to type through the jumps!

Thursday, 10th August.

A slow start but eventually I headed off to Tremblant with the renovated trailer, fitted out for canoes.
It needed at least one new tyre, which they were able to do straight away so I was exactly ready for meeting up with the rest of the family as they came on in the rental.

Then, via Banana – of which more, later, to leave the car and trailer and on to Rafting Nouveau Monde in the rental alone!

We arrived with half an hour to spare and signed in for our cabins.  The original plan had been to have a practice camp overnight but the weather had been truly horrible all day so that was out.  Fortunately, although the cabins were fully booked for Friday, they were available for Thursday and, although spartan and very simple, they were vastly better than a soggy sojourn!

A simply huge supper across in Hawkesbury and a decent night’s sleep for Ali and me – I’m afraid less so for the others.

Friday, 11th August.

The Davis clan headed off on the Family rafting expedition, Ali and I had designs on the mouth of the Rouge.

Our Chapleau to Roncesvalles trip needs to by-pass the real “Seven Sisters” waterfalls and, although we believe there is, or must have been, an original portage trail up from the Ottawa, it’s little known now.  So road it was to be!

Well, we were blessed with good weather, throughout; in fact it was “water weather” all the way.

Although it wasn’t very far in absolute terms, the downhill was quite long and we became a bit apprehensive at the prospect of the along-the-river distance to be followed by the climb back up!  So we arrived at the river road and headed back up hill, to a cool alcohol free beer and the wait for the paddlers’ return!

Rumble-tumble packing up and then back to “Confiserie Banana” when Dominique and Anne-Marie had laid on a workshop visit – with making!  Their business is marzipan figurines and they had prepared materials and plans for a series of items for each of the  family to make!

Sooo kind!

Such a long day.  Home to pasta and bacon sauces – via a catastrophe of a capsized cheese sauce.

And the happy presentation of our “Cross of the North” Chapleau to Roncesvalles badges.
