Friday 29th September.
Continuing to sort things out. Rushed around on the quad - after I'd boost-started the battery - to the woodland beyond the little cabin. We have a large triangle there, perhaps half an acre, that slopes pretty steeply down to the road opposite the notarised access. I saw, shining through the trees, a very long birch trunk fallen. And it's this year's falling and good solid timber. Well, I cleared off the top 1/3rd which made about a 1/4 cord of firewood. Stacked that outside the tunnel. I'll go back next summer for the remainder.
Moved Moonlight up from the access to the little cabin whilst I was putting the trailer away. This boat is just soooo light!
That's not done for effect; it really is that easy.
Karen and Denis came to overnight - brilliant. so very good to see them. And a perfect excuse to go to LoCal in Tremblant - where Ali had lunch earlier in the week. Substantial portions and really well cooked.
Ali finished the Jig-Saw!
Saturday, 30th September
A lingering breakfast then the odd domestic whilst Karen and Denis went to visit Yves and Janin and then we all met up at The Apple Pressing at Mark and Janis' place. Glorious sunshine, excellent food as always; good company. Met up with Ted and Ingrid from le Macaza. Ted was wearing his
orange Tee shirt in recognition of the marking of the historical (and ongoing) mistreatment of First Nations people. Lots of people we've met down the years. Mark was wearing his
424 Squadron gillet, given to him after he went to speak to them recently about his
rescue, 4 years ago.
Still, a lovely event and nothing of that to colour the day.
Home to attack the screen room, reinforcing it for the winter. Largely done by nightfall; very tired and no need for further food!
Sunday, 1st October.Woke early - having gone to bed very early - watched service live from St Michael's FB and dozed for a while before heading off to a sadly depleted Grace. One or two folks have developed Covid in a local outbreak, others are away; others are looking to move on for the winter....
The trees are magnificent this fall - but so is the weather. These are some of the "quieter" ones!
Grace was lovely, these flowers seemed "just so".
Back via Ann-Marie and Dominique's to hand over some pieces and to see how they are - she's also had Covid but is getting over it.
Then via a video call from Mike Eustace who has nobly had a go at our FB lawn / meadow, to Mark's to deliver the left over oats for his horses and collect some glasses from yesterday. And everywhere the colours shout "hosannah!".
We finished the screen room reinforcement and are putting more and more things away.
Supper was the big (almost 2lb) Bass from a few weeks ago. Magnificent.
