Saturday, 3rd October. The shut-down continues; it was good to be out an about, even though I was only re-installing the supports for the screen-room roof.Ali was busy making a Boodle's Orange Fool - the family signature dessert inherited from her mother - in preparation for the Casserole (Fall) Supper at Grace Church, Arundel, the Anglican church where we have begun to worship every week.
It was an early start to supper - at 5.30! Many ladies had made really interesting dishes - I had the "tasting menu" with one spoonful of each. The Baked Beans and the Meat-balls stood out!
We sat and ate with Peter and Greg (the Girl - as she signs herself) Trepanier / Davis. They are from Ottawa but have a very small (apparently) cottage on a lake near Tremblant. They are lovely; we did enjoy their company. And with Bevin and Coryn; he was a PE teacher - although his degree was History and Economics - and she was a nurse. And all along they've also been farmers on his family farm. They met when he was boat-man for a summer camp and she had to call on him to take her to her patients. They corresponded (Montreal to Boston) for two years, flying in turn every six weeks to see each other - 49 years ago. That must have been quite a commitment.
Grace Church is a lovely community to worship in. I just hope that we can sort it out for me to be some degree of help there in the coming years.
And then home to Waterseal the deck - just enough product! - and to trim the outer doors top and bottom - they really are too tight; or they were!
I have had this famous orange boodle, Guy has made it- I had no idea it was a legacy family recipe! Now it's even more treasured. and so gld you found a church that suits you both, it can be hard to find a congregation that is a good fit.
